Nyan Corridor is a non-profit Institute of Social Research and Social Research Methodology seeking Myanmar a just society through conducting social research and provision of research knowledge and the concepts relating to political ecology and political economy. Nyan Corridor believes that positive social change for humanity can be achieved through research and research philosophies. It views two primary sets of research philosophies—theories of being (ontology) and theories of knowledge (epistemology)—as particularly useful for understanding social injustices and conflicts within society. Research philosophies enable researchers and learners to shed light on the socially constructed nature of knowledge, where knowledge production is often dominated by powerful groups, both globally and locally. Reflection on the fundamental structures of the social world can support efforts to address injustices that largely stem from socially and politically constructed forms of knowledge. While acknowledging the significance of social constructions and embracing the idea of situated knowledge, Nyan Corridor also maintains an ontological stance that certain social realities exist independently of the human mind. Accordingly, its researchers pursue inquiries using both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
Nyan Corridor strongly believes that research activities and the dissemination of research knowledge constitute essential actions for building a just society—one in which all people can equally attain justice, freedom, and economic and social well-being as dignified human beings. Guided by this mission, researchers at Nyan Corridor take a political stance in solidarity with oppressed and disadvantaged communities.
